Before you think “wait a minute, have you been living in a cave? Pokémon GO has been out for ages!”, here’s the deal: after seven months, the most successful mobile video game ever just got its first major update and we are VERY excited. Without further ado, Pokémon GO is our Game of The Week.

If there were any doubts about Pokémon being one of the most successful franchises ever, Pokémon GO made them all disappear. People were catching Pokémon literally everywhere. It’s true that some of us gave up along the way, but it seems like developer Niantic is trying to get us all back into it by throwing new Pokémon into the mix and a few more things.

So, what’s new?

There are 80 new gen 2 Pokémon for you to catch. Among these, you can find the starters Totodile, Chikorita and Cyndaquil, as well as the super cuties Pichu and Togepi, among many others. There are also some region-locked Pokémon: you can catch Heracross in South America only and Corsola if you are somewhere between the two tropics.

Pokémon eggs are also more diverse and you can now hatch more than 30 different species with the 2km ones; plenty more that can be hatched with 5km and 10km eggs. There are also new berries and new evolution items. These evolution items allow you to speed up/trigger the evolution of some Pokémon - for instance, use a Metal Coat to evolve an Onix to Steelix.

Celebrate Pokémon Day!

February 27th is Pokémon Day and, as such, there will be a celebratory event inside Pokémon GO. Between today and March 6th, make sure you have your Poké Balls ready and try catching an exclusive Party Hat Pikachu! This Pikachu will keep his Party Hat on forever, so make sure you grab it. During this event, Pokémon Centers will be selling Eevee, Magikarp, Mew and Pikachu Gallery Figures.

If you’re looking for a different Pokémon experience, make sure you take a look at our Poké Companion Apps bundle, where you can find a bunch of other Pokémon-related apps.

Now go and catch 'em all! (or not)
